UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN HOSTS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, USA
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships- Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration-Professor P.O. Olapegba and the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI) - Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, mni, FAS welcomed seven international students from the University of Chicago, USA and their Mentors/Collaborators on the 21st of July, 2025. The students are in UI for a Global Health Summer Fellowship programme from June to September 2025. The University of Ibadan has partnered with the University of Chicago on numerous programmes, and this Fellowship is one of such. Students on this programme are engaged in a 12-week global health experiential learning and research opportunity.
The objective of this Fellowship is to provide students at different levels and from different backgrounds, practical exposure to global health and policy research with a strong foundation in faculty and peer-to-peer mentorship. The Fellowship aims to help students gain valuable experience in collecting and analysing data, collaborating with researchers and peers, understanding and synthesising research literature, formulating hypotheses, orally presenting results, thinking and working creatively and independently and applying knowledge to real-world situations.
The students this year are mentored by academic staff from the Departments of Radiation Oncology (Dr Atara Ntekim), Psychiatry (Dr Yetunde Adeniyi), Radiology (Professor Godwin Ogbole), Health Promotion and Education (Dr Mojisola Oluwasanu) and Computer Science (Dr Aderonke Sakpere) in collaboration with partners at the Healthy Life Foundation and the Centre for Population and Reproductive Health. They will be working on various studies focusing on household air pollution and cognitive development in children, cardiac and renal functions of breast cancer patients, stroke, data science, community development and national health research.
